A Star is born...
Oh my goodness! This is finally here!
The long awaited Home Affairs Herald! Sound drum roll please... but seriously. Not one to procrastinate, but this wee newsletter here has been a long time incubating. Time. Well, there never seemed to be enough of it and so finally a piece of time was created to make time for this!
Why "Home Affairs" you ask? I mean, please! The images that whiz into the imagination are of an arm of government that may strike fear or despair ...but really, the name is quite simply a translation. iKhaya means "home" or "the house" in isixhosa, one of the predominant language of the people of the Western Cape and so it is iKhaya affairs.

It's been an awesome year, what with the World Cup vibe that had everyone sporting vuvu-lips from blowing the loud vuvuzelas to the exciting launch of Café Harambee in October.

Café Harambee
Pronounced: Ka fay Ha ram bay
Café Harambee is our celebration of a reincarnation of our restaurant space.
Harambee is a phrase that was coined by Mzee Kenyatta as a rallying call to unite a fledging Kenya at independence. It means "pulling together for a common purpose" and so is the re-fit of the restaurant and the creation of its delectable feel good menu.
The result is a fresh offer of a comfortable mix of chic African and cool Greek ambiance. It embraces the ocean and African landscape feel of Cape Town, which is immediately relaxing and refreshing.
The mascot, Betty, is featured here and is on the cover of the menus and graces the wall at Café Harambee, boldly portraying confidence and verve.

Meet the team...
Franck - Front Desk Manager
Franck was unanimously chosen the first team member featured. As a front desk manager, Franck is at the coalface.
Among his gifts is disarming guests with his humour. On arrival, he can be unrepentant in presenting a straight face to confirmed guests and announcing us "fully booked". The look of horror on their faces is swiftly replaced by laughter once a welcome drink is offered.
Immediately a relaxed footing is established: welcome to iKhaya Lodge. Franck celebrated his daughter Monica's second birthday this month and has come to accept that lazy Sunday afternoon naps are a thing of the past.
